TMS Therapy for Depression — Non-Drug. Non-Invasive. FDA-Cleared.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an FDA-cleared treatment for major depressive disorder that works by delivering targeted magnetic pulses to areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. It is non-invasive, requires no anesthesia, and has no systemic side effects.
TMS is typically recommended for patients who have not achieved adequate response from one or more antidepressant medications, though it may be considered earlier in some cases.
How it works:
A TMS device delivers brief magnetic pulses to the left prefrontal cortex — the brain region most consistently underactive in depression. Over a course of treatments, this stimulation increases activity in that region and improves depressive symptoms in many patients.
What to expect:
Treatment sessions last approximately 20–40 minutes
A standard course involves daily sessions, 5 days per week, for 4–6 weeks
No sedation or recovery time — patients can drive themselves and return to normal activities immediately
Most patients tolerate treatment well; the most common side effect is mild scalp discomfort during the session
Who is a candidate:
TMS may be appropriate if you have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder and have not responded adequately to at least one antidepressant medication. We will conduct a thorough evaluation to determine whether TMS is right for you.
